Global Cancer Forum Held In Guangzhou

The Global Cancer Forum 2012 was held at the Fuda Cancer Hospital, School of Medicine, Jinan University recently in Guangzhou. The forum was attended by around 300 oncologists from more than 13 countries in the world including the USA, Austria, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Russia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and the Middle East. The big turn up for the global cancer forum clearly indicated the strong support and affirmation by hospitals and medical professionals around the world.

The forum was chaired by Prof. Youyong Lu of the Beijing University, who is also the deputy chairman of the International Society of Cryosurgery. The welcoming speech was delivered by Prof. Kecheng Xu of the Fuda Cancer Hospital, followed by speeches of guests of honors, Prof. Zhenyi Wang, Prof Jun Hu, Chancellor of the Jinan University, Prof. Sajio Sumida, immediate past president of the International Society of Cryosurgery, Prof. Nikolai N. Korpan of Austria, the current president of the International Society of Cryosurgery.

The main theme of the forum, “APL Studies and Its Revelation” was delivered by Prof. Zhenyi Wang. All-trans retinoic acid-induced differentiation therapy for Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia(APL) was first introduced by Prof. Zhenyi Wang about 40 years ago. The differentiation therapy achieved 95% cure rate in the treatment of malignant tumours without causing damage to healthy cells. Prof. Qimin Zhan delivered his paper entitled “Transformation Science – the Future of Modern Medicine”. It stressed on the vital role of transformation science in the studies of cancer and cancer treatment. In his paper, Prof. Youyong Lu came out with a hypothesis that cancer was a chronic inflammation, a delayed healing of wound or even a functional “organ”. Prof. Yajun Guo, the President of the People’s Liberation Army Hospital, delivered on “New Immunology Therapy for Cancer” while Prof. Yueyong Xiao presented his paper on “Personalized, Rational and Selective Application of Minimally Invasive Therapy for Cancer and its Effectiveness”. His paper stressed on the combined application of cryosurgery with other minimally invasive therapy for the treatment of cancer for better efficacy. The topic of Prof. Kecheng Xu’s paper was “Is Advanced Cancer Curable?” in which he reported on the findings on follow-up visits on advanced lung liver and pancreatic cancer patients who were admitted and received cancer treatment in Fuda Cancer Hospital. Prof. Xu pointed out that advanced cancer patients were eager to receive the most effective treatment so that their life could be extended. As such medical professionals must be proactive and take a positive approach in providing treatment. According to Prof. Xu the 3C’s treatment model was a wise option. The follow-up visit showed that advanced cancer was curable or at the least it could help to extend patient’s life. Prof. Lizhi Niu, the executive president of Fuda Cancer Hospital presented his paper on “Percutaneous Cryosurgery for Pancreatic Cancer”.

Prof Sajio Sumida of Japan spoke on “Ablation Injury caused by Cryosurgery and advancement in cryosurgery”. Prof Korpan’s paper was on “The Fundamental and Prospective Nano technology in Cryo-ablation”.

Dr. Li Qiao and Dr. Haitau Yang of the USA talked on “New Organic Therapy for Cancer” and “The Clinical Significance of Peripheral Blood of a Single Cancer Cell Detection” respectively. Prof Jinjiao Gao’s topic was “Cancer Cells Therapy” while Prof Yinxiong Li of the Duke University, USA spoke on “Old Concept, New Hope” that opened up a new roadmap for cancer treatment. Prof Yongzhang Luo of Tsinghua University delivered his finding on Angiogenesis inhibitor and gave full details on its theoretical and application aspects while Prof Dinggang Li, Dr. Marcelo of the USA and Prof Jingyan Han touched on the strategies on cancer treatment by integrating the Western and Oriental medicines. Prof Salmon and Prof Bey from the Curie Cancer Hospital were invited to talk on breast cancer angioplasty and intraoperative radiotherapy. Several other professors from Russia, Indonesia, Japan and India also delivered their papers on various topics on cancer treatment.
