Dear committee members:

First of all, thank you for coming to Guangzhou to attend the annual meeting. Also thank the conference organizers for their work of preparing the meeting.

Two years have passed since the Asian Society of Cryosurgery was founded in May 2012. During this period, with the sincere cooperation of the committee members, our society acquired significant achievements. Now, let me give a brief review of the two year’s work.

1. Society founded, laying foundation for subject development

May 25, 2012, this is a day to be remembered as the founding date of Asian Society of cryosurgery. Under the guidance of World Congress of Cryosurgery, and with the cooperation of distinguished Asian experts, Asian Society of Cryosurgery was founded in Guangzhou, after two years’ preparation work. More than three hundred delegates from eleven countries and regions attended the meeting, on which 36 committee members were chosen under strict procedures of recommendation and election. The meeting set up the organizing agency of the Society, which guaranteed the efficiency of future work. The meeting was reported by CCTV and other news agencies, with great influence.

Purpose of Asian Society of Cryosurgery is to serve the patients. With two years’ of work, the society improves the technique of cryosurgery, and expands its application in Asia. The society has built up a platform for communication and cooperation between specialists of Asian countries and other countries of the world.

2. Conferences organized, developing the subject of cryosurgery

Organizing conferences, and exchanging information and ideas, are critical to the development of medical science, and in turn are helpful to promote the development of other aspects of the human society. During the last two years, we organized conferences for academic discussion and technique exchange. Asian Society of Cryosurgery gained fame not only in Asia, but also in the world.

One thing worth mentioning is that, in October 2013, we help sponsored the annual meeting of the 17th World Congress of Cryosurgery in Bali, Indonesia. Over one hundred forty delegates from more than ten countries and regions attended the meeting, on which Dr. Xu Kecheng was elected as chairman of the World Congress of Cryosurgery. Members of our society were elected as committee members of the World Congress of Cryosurgery, indicating the acknowledgement of our society to world colleagues. Also on this meeting, Niu Lizhi, Li Chengli, Qu Lixin, Li Jiexia, Chen Xudong, and Zhang Yanfang, Fan Weijun, members of our society, gave excellent reports, causing heated discussion, gained great concerns, and were highly praised.

3. Programs organized, training specialists in the field of cryosurgery

During the last two years, our committee members and their working teams, have developed the technique of cryosurgery, and have promoted its applications. Training centers were established in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Lots of cryosurgical doctors were trained in the training centers. The shortage of technical personnel was solved, and the application of the technique was spread. For example, the Southern Cryosurgery Training Base was founded in the department of interventional radiology, Shenzhen People’s Hospital. The training base has the advantage of special zone location, and radiates its influence in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Many training programs were organized in the training base, which attracts colleagues from surrounding areas, especially from Taiwan. The training programs have gained significant influence.

4. Application spread, serving the patients directly

In order to make standard cryosurgery in clinical application, we organized training programs for standarded cryosurgery, wrote the specification of cryo-ablation of tumor of whole body and guidance for preventing complications. So far we have acquired preliminary achievements. Target of future is to make cryosurgery a standardized, individualized and rational technique.

5. Establishing the society and accomplishing duties

Our society members have worked efficiently, cooperatively and friendly for two years, Regulations of the society were improved. Archives of conference literature were made. Our society members did hard work in organizing conferences and saving data records of meetings. Now, I, on behalf of all committee members, thank you for your excellent work.

Here, I’ll give some advice on development of the society.

Firstly, I hope our committee members continue researching of cryosurgery as they always do. Based on the society, we will concentrate on scientific research, develop new techniques, promote application, and prevent complications, with the purpose of benefiting more patients.

Secondly, we’ll continue to organize high-level academic conferences and training programs, to increase domestic as well as international influence of our society. Based on the training centers, we’ll continue the standardization training program of cryosurgery, to bring up more qualified doctors in Asian countries.

Furthermore, we’ll continue to supplement and amend the technical specifications of cryosurgery and prevention of complications. The goal is to make this technology rule-based and evidence-based in application.

Finally, I hope all members express their views freely, and give advice on development of the society. I wish the conference a complete success. Thank you!
